The Egyptian empire is the top pick of Civilization players looking to outdo AI or other players by building significant wonders in the game. In Civilization 5, Egypt enjoys the unique ability called Monument Builders which grants 20 percent faster production of wonders.
This year, Firaxis, the developer of the game, almost isn’t changing it. The next installment of the game, the Sid Meier’s Civilization 6, is once again packed with the Egyptian nation that gives players the chance to build wonders faster than others through its unique ability.
Announced through a new YouTube video upload, Egypt’s unique ability is called Iteru and it allows players to build wonders (and districts, a feature exclusive to the upcoming game) faster if they’re placed near the river. In addition, it voids the effect of floodplains when building wonders and districts.
“So what’s new?” you may ask. Well, the biggest change is the leader of the nation. From Rameses II, the new Egypt in Civ 6 is headed by Queen Cleopatra. The developer said she was chosen because she was famous for having affairs with both Julius Caesar and Marc Anthony thus changing the course of the Egyptian and Roman histories.
And the developers of Civilization 6 have literally followed the history because in the game, Cleopatra, the AI (or when you’re competing with her), has the characteristic of despising civilizations with army weaker than hers, but loving those that boast stronger armed forces. So when you have a weaker army than hers, expect a barrage of Egyptian military units at your doorstep soon.
Cleopatra in Civ 6 also gives improvements to trade routes, making them a viable partner in the game. External trade routes from Egypt give the nation extra gold, and those sent to Egypt also give Egypt additional gold. But you may want to send more trade routes to her nation because she’ll give you food, letting your cities grow faster.
In the same video, Firaxis also announced the unique unit and tile improvement of Egypt. First, players who will pick the country can build the Maryannu Chariot Archer which has bonus movement when it starts on open terrain. At the early part of the game, it is a good choice for faster attacks.
Second, the new Egypt of Civ 6 has the Sphinx, a unique tile improvement. Firaxis says it will provide additional faith and culture points when worked, and when built alongside a built wonder.
Egypt is a known wonder-focused civ in the Civilization franchise, and it will continue to do so in the coming years with the Civilization 6.
The game will join the market in October and it will be available for PC and Mac.
